Eternal Otter Records celebrates the release of treble treble vol. 3 with a retrospective night of performances at SPACE Gallery on Wednesday, November 16th at 7:30 pm. A three year project made possible by support from the Maine Arts Commission, treble treble documents the contemporary underground music scene emerging in Maine. Volume 3., curated by Ian Paige (Planets Around the Sun) and pressed on blue vinyl, features songs by Big Blood, Samuel James, Wesley Hartley and Traveling Trees, Nasty Negligee, kent, Village of Spaces, Gay Camp, drab pony, Jakob Battick and Phantom Buffalo.

The release show features performances from each of the Treble Treble compilations including Aleric Nez, Dead Man’s Clothe’s, Drab Pony and Jakob Battick. Complete with a record listening station, band artwork and special guest appearances, this show would be a perfect introduction into the dynamic underground music scene us Mainers can be proud of. The vinyl LP is also available for pre-order. All pre-orders will ship on November 17th. Eternal Otter Records is a Portland-based music label responsible for releasing records by Cerberus Shoal, Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, and many more, specializing in limited-edition vinyl recordings.

Now that you’ve had some time to get properly acquainted with Treble Treble Volume 1, it’s time for us to keep rolling out the goods. For the next couple of months, we’ll be bringing you downloads of new mp3s from the bands included in the compilation right here on the SPACE Gallery blog. Still don’t have the book? Treble Treble Is Out Now! Compilation + Book Release Party Photos

As you may have heard, local musician and photographer Joshua Loring and SPACE Gallery were awarded a grant by the Maine Arts Commission to document the underground rock scene in Portland, Maine. The result of this project is a compilation cd (wonderfully mastered by Pete Nenortas) and book (lovingly designed by Sean Wilkinson) covering a unique spectrum of the music happening here in our local scene. This is now available, in the form of Treble Treble Volume 1, at SPACE as well as Bull Moose Music (in Portland and Scarborough) and Newbury Comics (in South Portland). You can preview all ten tracks on the disc and get more info here.

On November 27th, 2009, we held a special release party for Treble Treble and had a number of the musicians involved in the project perform, including Gully, An Evening With, Huak, Metal Feathers, Vince Nez, Tempera, and Leif Sherman Curtis. We’ll be continuing this project right here at Have Faith In Worthless Knowledge with more tracks from the bands in Volume 1 as well as others as we continue to explore Portland’s music scene. Expect to hear more in the new year…
